Holiday apartments in Sestri Levante: the short answer

I'm Matteo. Since 2018 I've run two holiday apartments in Sestri Levante, and I answer every message myself. One is for people who arrive by car. The other is for people who arrive by train. That's the whole difference, and it matters more than you'd think in August.

Due Passi Beach: the apartment with private parking

Parking is the first question every driver asks me. In high season the blue-line spaces in the centre are full by mid-morning, and the old town is a limited traffic zone (ZTL) where you can't drive without a permit. Due Passi Beach solves that. You get a private parking space, free, right at the apartment. You park on arrival and you can forget the car until you leave.

The apartment is on a single level, 80 m². There is one bedroom with a queen bed, a sofa bed in the living room for two more guests, one bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. It has air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a washing machine.

From the door to the sea it's a 5-minute walk. The old town is just as close, so dinner, gelato and the evening stroll are all on foot. One guest, Franziska, summed it up after a family beach holiday: cooking for four was no problem, and the walk to the beach was very short.

Due Passi dal Mare: the holiday apartment by the station

Due Passi dal Mare is on Via Fico, 2 minutes' walk from Sestri Levante station and 2 minutes from the sea. You step off the train, wheel your suitcase round the corner and you're home. No taxi, no bus, no hunting for a parking space.

It's 55 m² on one level: a bedroom with a queen bed, a sofa bed in the living area, one bathroom and an equipped open-plan kitchen. Free Wi-Fi and a smart TV are included.

This is the apartment I recommend to anyone planning day trips by train. Sestri Levante is on the Genoa–La Spezia railway line, so the Cinque Terre, Portofino and Genoa are all reachable without a car. Which vacation rental in Sestri Levante suits you?

Here are the two apartments side by side. All the figures are the ones we use for our own listings.

Choose Due Passi Beach if...

• you're driving to Liguria, or renting a car at the airport
• you're a family of four and want more room to spread out
• you're travelling with a dog and plan to explore the hills by car

Choose Due Passi dal Mare if...

• you're arriving by train from Milan, Genoa or La Spezia
• you want to do the Cinque Terre or Portofino as day trips
• you'd rather be as close to the water as possible

Honestly, if you have a car, take Beach. If you don't, take dal Mare. Nine times out of ten that's the right call.

Where are the apartments in Sestri Levante?

Sestri Levante sits on the Riviera di Levante, the stretch of Ligurian coast east of Genoa. The town has two bays. The Baia delle Favole (Bay of Fables) is the long, open one on the west side, about 1 km of sand, near the station. The Baia del Silenzio (Bay of Silence) is the small, sheltered one on the east side of the old town.

Due Passi Beach is at Via Privata Bologna 7. Due Passi dal Mare is at Via Fico 36, by the station. Both are in town, so you don't need a car to reach the beach, the shops or the restaurants.

A word on Italian beaches, since it confuses many visitors. A spiaggia libera is a free public beach: you bring your own towel and umbrella. A stabilimento is a private beach club where you rent a sunbed and umbrella for the day. Both bays have some of each. How to book your holiday apartment in Sestri Levante

You book directly with us, on our own website. The apartment pages are in Italian, but the availability calendar is simple and you don't need to read Italian to use it.

1. Open the page of the apartment you want: Due Passi Beach, with private parking, or Due Passi dal Mare, next to the station.
2. Scroll down to the booking box, under the heading Prenota il Tuo Soggiorno (Book your stay). The Prenota Ora (Book now) button at the top takes you there too.
3. Pick your Check-in and Check-out dates, choose the number of Ospiti (guests, up to 4).
4. Press Verifica disponibilità (check availability) to see whether your dates are free and what they cost.

Prices change with the season, so the calendar is the only reliable source for your dates. The figures on this page are starting prices.

House rules, pets and registration codes

• Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 10:00, at both apartments.

• Self-catering: each apartment has a full kitchen, so you can shop at the local bakeries and grocers and eat on your own schedule.

When to book a seaside holiday in Sestri Levante

July and August fill up first. If you want those weeks, book early. If you have a choice, June and the second half of September are the months I'd pick myself: the sea is warm, the beaches have space and the evenings are long. One last tip for drivers staying at Beach: arrive in the afternoon, park, and walk to the Baia del Silenzio around 7 in the evening. In June the light at that hour turns orange and the bay goes quiet. That half hour is the best argument for sleeping in town rather than visiting for the day.
